Life in the UK with a YMS Visa: Miss Aurora’s Webinar Series for Taiwanese Youth

This post reflects on my journey creating a YMS webinar series for Taiwanese youth – a meaningful stepping stone toward building my online teaching business.

UK Youth Mobility Scheme Visa Ballot System

The UK Youth Mobility Scheme offers 1,000 places each for nationals of Hong Kong and Taiwan. Applicants must enter a ballot in order to gain eligibility to apply for the visa.

My Motive

Back in 2015, I boarded a flight to the UK with a Youth Mobility Scheme visa and two suitcases full of hope.

That journey changed my life.

During those two years, I gained not only work experience and language skills, but also a deep sense of independence and personal growth. Living and working in England was one of the most transformative chapters of my life.

That’s why I eventually created the Life in the UK with a YMS Visa: Webinar Series for Taiwanese Youth in 2024:

To help other young Taiwanese on the same path adjust faster, feel more confident, and navigate the early days in the UK with clarity – from opening a bank account, finding housing and jobs, to understanding British culture and daily language.

About the Webinar

Since launching in 2024, this webinar series has:

– 300+ attendees across 10 sessions (and counting!)

– 95%+ positive feedback

– Integrated real-life British English learning into topics like NI & GP registration, renting, banking, job hunting and English culture

– Been discovered not only through social media, but organically through Google search and blog articles

For many participants, this is the first step toward building a life in the UK – and I’m grateful I can walk alongside them, even just virtually.

Feedback from Attendees

These responses were collected anonymously from post-webinar surveys, DMs, and thank-you emails. Real words from real attendees.

💬 What Past Attendees Say About Miss Aurora’s YMS Webinar

After 10 sessions, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the kind words I’ve received so far from those who joined me in previous sessions. If anyone’s considering joining the next webinar, here’s a glimpse of what others have said, and what can be expected.

🌟 Overall Impressions: “So worth it!”

Participants consistently describe the webinar as thorough, thoughtfully structured, and incredibly worthwhile even at 3 to 4 hours long! Many said it was the first time they truly felt everything made sense, and that the value far exceeded the cost.

“The content was so rich – like a personal roadmap. I finally know what to do next.”

“Absolutely worth the time. I’d pay more for this level of detail.”

🧠 Practical Help That Makes a Real Difference

Whether it’s opening a bank account, finding housing, budgeting for daily life, or knowing what documents to prepare – my webinar walks you through it step by step. Attendees mentioned that the session helped them:

– Stop feeling lost in Google rabbit holes

– Understand how things actually work in the UK

– Get clear on tasks like SIM cards, flat hunting, NI number, job search, taxes, and more

“I finally understood what I need to prepare, and in what order.”

“There were so many useful examples that I hadn’t seen in other resources.”

🤍 Emotional Support People Need

This webinar doesn’t just deliver information – it offers reassurance. Many people came in feeling overwhelmed, hesitant, or stuck, and left feeling calmer, clearer, and more confident.

“I was ready to give up on going, but this session gave me the courage to keep going.”

“It felt like someone finally understood all the worries in my head.”

Some even shared that their parents listened along and felt more at ease, knowing their child had found a supportive guide.

💌 Extra Praise & Heartfelt Gratitude

I was truly touched by how many people went out of their way to share kind words after the session:

Many appreciated how much personal experience, empathy, and care went into every detail.

Several sent me messages like:

“It felt like a friend was walking me through it all.”

“You’re doing more than just sharing – you’re giving me strength.”

Looking Ahead: Where This Is Taking Me

What began as a small passion project, simply wanting to help a few Taiwanese youth prepare for their journey, has turned into something far more meaningful to me.

Over the past 2 years, through creating this webinar series, I’ve realised how deeply I care about guiding others through cultural transitions and bridging East and West through language and lived experience.

Teaching practical English, helping others settle into a new life abroad, and sharing everything I’ve learned along the way… these aren’t just side projects anymore. They’re becoming a calling.

As I move toward building my online English teaching business, I hope to continue creating learning spaces that are practical, honest, and deeply helpful. Whether it’s through webinars, English learning, cultural exchange, or simply sharing my thoughts in both English and Mandarin Chinese.

Thank you for reading – and for believing that stories like mine matter.
