數十年後，百年靈Breitling推出了復刻版Cosmonaute；2025年的今天，更推出了Scott Carpenter百歲冥誕的限定版本，紀念這位傳奇人物的一世紀。

在 Cosmonaute的B02機芯背蓋上，刻上了Scott的姓氏「Carpenter」、水星計畫「Mercury 7」、環繞地球3圈「3 orbits around the earth」，以及太空艙 「Aurora 7」的字樣。

太空艙Aurora 7的命名，來自於Scott Carpenter本人。

當時 NASA 的「水星計畫」（Project Mercury）允許太空人為自己的太空艙命名，而 Carpenter 選擇了 Aurora 7 這個名字，背後有兩個原因：

1. 「Aurora」象徵探索與希望✨

Carpenter 解釋，他選擇「Aurora」是因為這個字有兩層美麗的意涵：

▪️天文上的「極光」(aurora borealis）：象徵壯麗而神秘的天空現象，與太空探索精神相呼應。

▪️黎明：Aurora 有「曙光」、「新的一天的開始」之意，代表著人類航太時代的黎明、新時代的開端。

2. 「7」的意義：團隊精神🌐

Carpenter 特別強調，將「7」加在後面，是為了向 NASA 的7位水星計畫太空人致敬，也就是所謂的 Mercury Seven。包括了 Alan Shepard、John Glenn、Gus Grissom 等人。

Scott Carpenter希望藉由這個數字表達：雖然是他飛上太空，但這是整個團隊的成果。因此，「Aurora 7」是 Carpenter 對太空與團隊精神的一種個人化致敬。

而對我來說，Aurora 7不只是一個太空艙的任務代號，也是我身為百年靈一份子的重要連結——因為Aurora正是我的英文名字。

因著對自己的筆名「曦」的信念與期許，我在17歲那年和Aurora這個名字相遇、骨血融合之後，就承繼了黎明和極光的意義至今。

佩戴Breitling特製的Navitimer Cosmonaute 、搭著太空船Aurora 7登上太空的Scott Carpenter；和如今以身為Breitling一份子為傲，帶著對品牌的認同與感謝，介紹Navitimer給更多人知道的我，Aurora。

這個巧合，讓我在為其任職的品牌與歷史之間，找到了獨一無二的共鳴。

在百年靈，我看見歷史、設計與品牌定位的結合，濃縮在一款款獨具風格的作品裡。我於是能和人們互相分享滿載故事、意義，在時間長河陪伴我們的精準腕錶。

有時候，星辰的相遇與交會，總出乎我們意料。

🛰️ When “Aurora" Flew into Space: One Watch, Two Stories

In 1962, astronaut Scott Carpenter wore a custom-built Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute during his mission for NASA’s Project Mercury, making it the first Swiss wristwatch to travel to space.

What sets the Cosmonaute apart is its 24-hour dial, designed for the space environment where day and night blur. It’s more than a tool. It’s a symbol of innovation, courage and exploration.

Decades later, Breitling paid tribute to this legacy with a special re-edition of the Cosmonaute. And today, in 2025, the brand unveiled a special limited edition honoring what would have been Scott Carpenter’s 100th birthday, celebrating the legacy of this space pioneer.

On the caseback of the Cosmonaute’s B02 movement, we’ll find engravings of Scott’s last name “Carpenter," “Mercury 7," “3 orbits around the earth," and the name of his space capsule, “Aurora 7."

The Naming of Aurora 7

The name Aurora 7 was personally chosen by Carpenter. During the Mercury Program, NASA allowed astronauts to name their capsules, and he selected “Aurora 7” for two meaningful reasons:

1. “Aurora” stands for exploration and hope ✨

Carpenter explained that the word “Aurora” carried two beautiful meanings:

▪️ The aurora borealis, a majestic celestial phenomenon that mirrors the spirit of space exploration.

▪️ The dawn, symbolizing a new beginning, the arrival of a new era in human spaceflight.

2. The meaning behind “7”: A tribute to teamwork 🌐

The “7” honored the Mercury Seven, NASA’s original team of astronauts, including Alan Shepard, John Glenn, and Gus Grissom. 

Carpenter emphasized that although he was the one in space, it was a team effort. Aurora 7 became his personal tribute to both space and the spirit of teamwork.

What Aurora Means to Me

As for me, Aurora 7 is more than the name of a spacecraft. It’s a deeply personal connection to the brand I proudly represent. After all, Aurora is my English name.

Inspired by the meaning of my pen name “曦” (Xī, meaning dawn/light) in Taiwan, I chose the name Aurora at 17, and it’s stayed with me ever since, carrying its symbolism of light, new beginnings, and cosmic wonder.

There’s Scott Carpenter, who wore a specially made Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute and boarded the Aurora 7 spacecraft to go into space.

And then there’s me, Aurora, proud and grateful to be part of Breitling family today, introducing the Navitimer with pride to more and more people.

This serendipitous connection has given me a unique sense of resonance between the brand’s legacy and my own journey.

Working with Breitling, I see every day how history, design, and identity come together in one timepiece. I get to share the legacy that blends personal meaning & memory, and timekeeping precision.

And sometimes, the stars just align more literally than we expect.
